Amarula is a cream liqueur manufactured in South Africa. It is made with sugar, cream and the fruit of the African Marula tree (Sclerocarya birrea) which is also locally called the Elephant tree or the Marriage Tree. Amarula has captured the heart of the marula fruits uniquely exotic aromas and flavours to create a wine that is double-distilled into a clear spirit, aged in oak for 24 months. Wood spice characters of vanilla and toast are naturally imparted. Another important ingredient is fresh dairy cream. It gives Amarula its rich and velvety smooth consistency. It has had some success at international spirit ratings competitions, winning a gold medal at the 2006 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. 17% Alc./Vol.
